Wine Tasting - Central Otago

After the Kepler Track the 3 of us were in need of some R&R, so with some of the best Pinot Noir vineyards on the doorstep, we headed into wine country. We picked a new boy in the industry to guide us, thinking he would be enthusiastic and work hard to cement his place in a busy market place... we weren't wrong.

With just the 3 of us in the group, Jake (our guide) tailored the whole day around us, even taking us to the only NZ producer of white port in the afternoon, after Justin had said earlier in the day that he loves port! It was brilliant!!! He also took us to an aroma room where we tried to match the scent of different substances to wine. That was really hard... It got harder the more wine we drank :-)

We stopped at several interesting places during the day, including an old town (Cromwell) that remains a well preserved relic of the gold mining era.

The wines were wonderful and plentiful - we had a excellent day, Mel and Dave particularly enjoyed the pinot noir, Justin seemed to enjoy everything!

We returned to our place in Frankton (just outside Queenstown) feeling a little squiffy but having had a great day.

The sun came out and cast shadows over the craggy cliffs of the Remarkables mountain range, the back drop to the house we are staying in. Beautiful!
