Aitutaki - Cook Island Paradise

Kia Orana! Greetings  from Aitutaki! We didn't know if Rarotonga could be beaten... It turns out it could, this place was made in dreams! We were greeted at the airport with flower necklaces and coconut milk and taken to the most beautiful lagoon side beach huts we've ever seen.

Etu Moana (our accommodation) was paradise, our hut was backed by tropical jungle and looked out over the turquoise lagoon and the reef. The staff could do enough to make our 3 day stay special, and they really did.

Each night we wandered down to the beach with a glass of wine and watched some of the most incredible sunsets we've seen. Here are just two...

To coin a phrase from a famous film "I didn't know where the earth stopped and heaven began"... First one to guess the film wins a smile :-)

We visited the Island's lagoon to swim, snorkel and soak in the incredible colours (we promise these have not been through photoshop)

.

Many of the smaller islands are totally uninhabited and were perfect places for us to unwind after so much hiking in Canada:

We are back in Rarotonga now for a couple of days before we head to Auckland to begin our adventure in Middle Earth!!!

  1. Fantastic shots guys; it looks incredible! Look out for an email re. Arrival in Auckland. Glad to see you're still having an amazing time, you'll be looking forward to some more activities in NZ after all that lolling around on beautiful beaches! Big hugs as ever, Nic xx

  3. It looks absolutely fantastic. It takes me back to when we went to Moorea in Tahiti when you were young - we all even got a necklace of incredibly scented flowers when we arrived. It was a complete lagoon enclosed in a coral reef and sounds so similar. When we came back last time from NZ via Tahiti we watched the sky go blood red after the sun had dropped below the horizon, having thought the sunset wasn't going to come to much - we'll have to compare photos when you come home - I can't wait to see them all. You've obviously got a fantastic spot and it's great to see how much you're enjoying yourselves. Thanks for the card too - it's lovely.

As you can see I'm back from Mt Toubkal in the High Atlas and all is well. Quite a tough trek but doesn't challenge Kili for brutality! We're off to Fuerteventura next week before I go off to the Himalaya at the end of October so I've got a really tough time coming up (again)!!

Anyway give us a ring sometime on facetime - it'll be lovely to catch up properly. All my love to both of you. Keep on enjoying yourselves. xxx
